Fireplace without the cover.  It was letting in a bunch of cold air!  15deg colder in front of it in relation to the rest of the house.

New cover, made from furniture grade plywood and trim.

The handle makes it easy to carry around when removed.

Insulation board and weatherstripping keep out the cold.
